Risk Improvements: Put in place a Permit to Work System

When you need to put in place a Permit to Work scheme, you will find documents to assist you in the Health & Safety Management section of BCarm.

The basic principles behind a Safe Systems Module is to ensure that thought is given to the risks of a particular job or activities at site.  The permit is a detailed document which authorises certain people to carry out specific work at a specific site at a certain time, and which sets out the main precautions needed to complete the job safely.

In the Safe Systems Module you will find the following Permit formats, which can be issued to third parties or contractors when they come on to your premises to carry out work:

  • Permit to Work
  • Hot Work Permit
  • Working at Height

Controlling Contractors

In the Checklist section of Health & Safety Management, you will find Checklists you can use as an initial check and review of the contractor, for example:

  • Contractors Performance Checklist
  • Contractors Approval Checklist

Where the contractor is providing you with a Method Statement for the work being carried out, you can also access a Method Statement Review form, to help ensure their Statement addresses the necessary areas. This is found in the Safe Systems of Work section of Health & Safety Management.

Should you need on site assistance to develop your Safe Systems, we can also provide Consultancy support.  For more information or further assistance contact our Client Engagement Team on 0800 879 9981 or info@bcarm.co.uk
